Keisha C. Kuma
Biography
Keisha C. Kuma is a 37 year old wife and mother of three. She began her journey at the University of West Georgia and graduated from Georgia State University. She worked her way through college by working in the finance department of Grady Memorial Hospital. Shortly after graduating, she worked with an internet company, Macquarium Intelligent Communications as a business office manger. She ended her finance career after resigning as an Accounting Manager for UPS. As much as she learned in her finance career she realized she didn't want to "work" her entire life. She wanted to follow her dreams and live her passions. She picked up a short story she'd written in college. All her friends and classmates wanted to know what became of the characters that captured their hearts and the ones they loved to loathe. She decided to turn the story into a novel, when her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008. Keisha and her family were blown away. Her mother, Delores Clark, had never smoked and was extremely healthy. She was a vegetarian that had run the Peachtree Road Race for 12 years. Keisha put her story down and she and her sister geared up to battle cancer right alongside their mother. In December 2009 they founded "The Pretty Women Foundation" a foundation began to assist women battling cancer. In February 2010, they watched as cancer took their mother from them. Keisha thought her heart would never recover and that she would never regain the desire to write again. Then in March 2010 she was admitted into the hospital with slurred speech and unable to move the left side of her body. 3 days after her admission she got her diagnosis, Multiple Sclerosis, a hole in her heart, and probable Lupus. On night while in the hospital while suffering from insomnia caused by the high dose of steroids given to her for MS she said a prayer. She prayed to get the use of her left side again. She prayed that the words would start to make sense and she could write again. MS had interrupted her thought pattern as well as limited her physical ability. In June 2010, Keisha completed Sins of Thy Mother. In July 2010 she buried her father, a two time Vietnam Veteran who passed from cardiac arrest.Sins of Thy Mother incorporates all that Keisha has dealt with in her life; everything we all deal with. Love. Loss. Promises. Doubt. And Faith. When asked how did you finish this book while dealing with so much adversity and loss in your life? she answers simply with the Mary, Mary songamp;#8230;"It's the God is me". She explains, "God kept his promise to me to never forsake me and HE hasn't. In my darkest hours when things seem to look so dismal HE gives me a light to walk towards. When walking was a problem HE sent my husband to help me. HE sent my sisters to support me. HE sent my children to inspire me. Sometimes I only had a mustard seed of faith and HE moved mountains."Sins of Thy Mother is a tribute to her mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. These three women taught her to live her life, conquer her demons, and walk in faith. She wished that they were here to see her finally finish her novel, but she realizes that their deaths, like their lives have taught her how to not only survive, but thrive. Delores Clark, Cornelia Hinton, and Jannie Kuma all still live and love through Keisha and their grand and great-grand children. Their lessons are being passed down through the generations, but also as Keisha volunteers with mentoring programs such as All Grown Up, Inc. She continues her mother's legacy of giving back. She ensures that women battling cancer, any kind of cancer, live the slogan her mom coinedamp;#8230;"Cancer is my battle. To live is my choice." She has committed a portion of the proceeds from her sales to The Pretty Women Foundation and All Grown Up Inc.
