Are dreams just a physiological occurrence or something triggered by the pizza and movie we had the night before? Is there any foundation for a greater meaning to our life through our dreams?

According to the Scripture we see people were often perplexed by their dreams, even troubled and alarmed at times, and sought after their dream's interpretation (Genesis 40:5-8, 41:8; Daniel 2:1-3, 4:4-6). They did not view dreams as insignificant or the discussion of their meaning as weird. On the contrary, in the Bible, we see that when people woke up, they ACTED on their dreams!

Joseph, Jacob's son, at an early age knew there was significance to dreams. In his youthful zeal he even shared his dreams and observations with his brothers (Genesis 37:5-9), who did not much care for his interpretation. Nevertheless, Joseph's ability to listen to God through his dreams was the tool God used to take him from an Egyptian prison to be the 2nd in Command over Egypt as he interpreted the dreams of the Pharaoh's servants and eventually Pharaoh's dreams.

From Abraham in Genesis to John in Revelation, God spoke through dreams and visions, however, today we find that the concept of revelation through dreams as hokey or dangerously mystic. Some may shrug off this form of communication as coincidence or only a valid form of communication in Biblical times, but are dreams still significant and relevant, today?
