More DescriptionHe was tall and he was dark and he was movie-star handsome. His name was Rock Hudson and I was barely just born during the hey-day of his popularity. He was one of the most-loved and well-known actors of his time, but what did I know! I was fifteen years old and hadn't a clue as to who he was, when I started doing odd jobs up at his house. I was too busy being a California boy, surfing and raising a little hell. I knew nothing of his career, of the movies he'd made, awards he'd received, of his sex appeal with women and the pesky swirl of rumors which had followed him throughout his career. I worked for the actor for ten years, from 1975 until he drew his last breath, on October 2, 1985. In the course of those years I became his good friend, estate manager, confidant, and in the end, one of his caregivers. I knew just as much about him as anyone could know about another person---living and working alongside him in his home. Rock became more to me than just an employer, and he treated me like the son he'd never had. He told me things he didn't trust telling others. He knew he could trust me, and I knew most all his secrets. One might say I am Rock Hudson's long-lost son, closeted in the same way he was---not allowed to tell the truth due to a court ordered gag order. Well, I found the key---this book, and now I am using it to come out of that "closet" and finally set the record straight. Rock was such a great and positive influence on my life, and I'd like for these words to influence the memory people carry of him as well. All in the book are my own opinions, evaluations, observations, or quotes directly from Rock Hudson, or of those close around him. All the photographs are from Rock's private collection, many of them never before seen outside the gates of his house. They were the ones he would look at, the ones he cherished, the ones he held dear. ~ They were his.
