More DescriptionThis Doctor of Ministry thesis-project addresses the socio-economic barriers that separate members of a commuter congregation from the people in the surrounding community. By crossing this border to study, reflect and pray the Psalms together participants from LaGrave Christian Reformed Church and Guiding Light Mission formed genuine Christian community. Through theological reflection on Christian spiritual formation and research results gathered from small groups it can be said that believers who are sent to cross borders are transformed by participating with Jesus in his incarnational work of sending his followers in mission. By crossing a socio-economic gap and participating a small group self-awareness in participants was enhanced which led to a transformed perspective about people on the other side of the gap. This research has implications for future spiritual formation ministry at LaGrave and is applicable to congregations facing similar gaps between the congregation and their community.
