More DescriptionA missing small-time crook. An untraceable handgun. A priest in a twelve-step program. Try solving a murder mystery with those clues. It's what Paul Keaton must do when a lifelong friend is arrested for killing his girlfriend and her lover, a sheriff's deputy. Seems to be an open and shut case, too. The friend called 911 to report the murders and the murder weapon was found in his possession. Damning evidence for sure, but Paul is convinced the evidence lies. The son of a cocksure bully, Paul ran away from home when he was seventeen and never came back ... until now. To help his friend, Paul returns to his childhood home in Dearling County, Vermont. After all, somebody needs to search for the real killer, and with Paul being suddenly unemployed he sees no reason not to do it. Too bad his fiancée doesn't agree. Instead of helping his friend, she thinks Paul should be helping her father at his used car lot. Another person not thrilled about him coming home to conduct an amateur investigation is the one man Paul needs on his side: the county sheriff. Who is also Paul's hypochondriac brother. Besides figuring out how to make his brother see the wrong man is behind bars, Paul has to figure out how to connect with a father he thought he knew but doesn't really know at all, and why his investigation caused a spike in Dearling County's crime rate.
