Book Description:

This collection insists on the provisional and contingent formations of the human over time and demonstrates that these formations emerge (and disappear) in different times and places, from the most ancient past to the most contemporary present. The essays are "fragments," for there can ever be a "total history" of either the human or the posthuman, since defining "the human" (or "posthuman") is an ongoing, never finished cultural project.
