More DescriptionAmerica has separated. In the traditionalist Red States, Gene is coming of age and about to leave the dreary Warphanage he grew up in for the very first time. Life in America has changed drastically since the climate and population crises, leading Gene to explore shady options on the far side of Martial Law. Amid this mixed, political intrigue Gene will either find joyful happiness or he will condemn himself to misery. Or sometimes, can they be one and the same?GENE is a short adventure story that sees it's eponymous young man experience, with eyes as fresh as ours, a detailed vision of our near future. He encounters fully-realised technologies that have just appeared on our modern horizon, and struggles with themes like LGBT equality, the human rights of artificial intelligences, and the immediate future of human genetics.GENE is the author's first foray into publishing, but more than that it's aspirational; the author wants to add to the discussion on these topics that will become so important in our shared near future. The inspirations for this book came from Isaac Asimov, Philip K Dick, Robert Heinlein, Brian K Vaughan, Alan Moore and Jeff Lemire, and the author would very much love to carry on their torch of writing socially conscious science fiction.
