More DescriptionIf the unbeaten Golden Fleece, effortless winner of the 1982 Derby in record time had not suffered from illness he would have gone on to be the greatest racehorse of all time. That is my opinion, and that of many others. If he had not tragically succumbed to his grave illness so early in his career at stud he would certainly have also become the greatest dual purpose sire of all time. This has now proved certain, borne out over time by the remarkable successes of his descendants. When Golden Fleece died so tragically his offspring numbered less than 60 and he almost immediately became a forgotten champion and sire. His bare sire statistics compared more than favourably with any other highly regarded sire but as his female progeny have become broodmares he has emerged as a truly remarkable sire and broodmare sire in particular. But his now phenomenal legacy from so few offspring has gone unrecognised.I decided to set the record straight for posterity and as a tribute to the great horse.Even I was amazed at what I discovered.I have traced almost all the descendants of Golden Fleece - more than 1,250 in all. They number 545 winners of more than 1,800 races including 66 Listed races and 33 Group races. In my book you will find them details of them all, together with their performances. They are as up-to-date as possible, including stallions, broodmares, horses-in-training, yearlings, foals and even some current matings. This book has been a labour of love but it is not merely my tribute to Golden Fleece. I have tried to make it an almost definitive guide to where the reader can find any horse descended from Golden Fleece, in particular stallions, broodmares and their young offspring. You will find illustrious performers such as the top class US racemare Cozi Rosie, now a broodmare in Japan and Traffic Guard - the new exciting Stallion prospect in South Africa. These are high profile examples - the offspring of Cozi Rosie will be worth the proverbial fortune. But the descendants of Golden Fleece can now be found in the USA, UK, France, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, Spain, India, South America and virtually every other racing country in the world. They include top class performers on both the flat and in National Hunt racing. So if you are looking for a stallion or broodmare with Golden Fleece in their blood you will find them all here.It will then enable you to find foals and yearlings descended from the great horse, part of his growing golden legacy, any of which could become a champion like their paternal Patriarch the great Golden Fleece himself.
