German Description:Hans Virchows Werk ist aufs Engste verknupft mit dem gewaltigen Anstieg der Kenntnisse im Bereich der Anatomie und der naturwissenschaftlichen Forschung im spaten 19. und fruhen 20. Jahrhundert. Gegenstand dieser Monographie ist das Leben und Werk Virchows in seiner ganzen Breite und damit das Feld des Historischen in seiner besonderen zeitlichen Struktur. Der Anatom entwickelte Fragestellungen und Losungsvorschlage, Grundbegriffe und Methoden, die fur die anatomische Wissenschaft von grundlegender Bedeutung sind.
