Tracey felt as if her life was slowly slipping away from her. Once she had been very successful and in high demand at work. Now, she was making mistakes left and right and finding it very difficult to concentrate on anything.

She had been through a lot in the past year, and approaching the holidays was only reminding her of that. Each day brought a fresh sting of loss. First she and her husband had split, which was unexpected for Tracey. She had assumed life was settled, and would progress traditionally. Then the most devastating loss of all, her mother passed away. She and her mother had been more than just mother and daughter, they had been best friends. They would often plan trips and go on adventures together.

Now the holidays were drawing close and Tracey was faced with the truth of what her life had become. She was causing problems at work, which by all rights might get her fired. She had no potential romance in her life, and was unsure if she even wanted one. She lost her best friend, and biggest supporter.

When things at work boil over into a forced vacation, she feels as if it is the last straw. Instead, a good friend inspires her to look at it from a different perspective. She encourages Tracey to honor her mother's memory by taking the last vacation they planned but never had a chance to enjoy.

A trip to Alaska to enjoy the Northern Lights. After some thought, and much loneliness, Tracey decides to give it a try. She makes the arrangements for the impromptu trip and flies off without many expectations. She is only hopeful that she will find some peace.

Not long after she arrives in the beautiful location, she is confronted by an unwanted presence. Peter is handsome, well-off, and well known within the resort for playing the field. He is deeply intrigued when Tracey offers him the cold shoulder. He decides to make it his mission to get to know her better. Everywhere she turns Tracey finds him waiting there, with his pretty brown eyes gleaming with mischief.

Tracey finds his insistent pursuit to be very irritating and disruptive, but she catches glimpses of what might lay beneath Peter's arrogant exterior. She begins to suspect that somehow they may have more in common than she realizes. As their romance begins to bloom the only certainty between them is the intensity of their passion for one another. As they attempt to figure out what exactly is happening between them, their true heartbreaks are revealed, and the journey of overcoming them becomes a journey of two.
