More DescriptionThis second novel in the Jemmiss series sees the main character, Bernie James, set off on a trip to Germany. Whilst there he innocently finds himself caught up in unusual circumstances which take him to the USA. He starts off in the nation's capital, Washington DC, but before long is heading west in an American RV.He travels almost from coast to coast accompanied by Charlie, a former lawyer, who interests Bernie in Native American affairs and a crazy scheme that he is trying to put together which would see the building of a nuclear waste recycling plant within sight of the White House. They almost come to grief in Tennessee. Bernie is trapped in a moonshine-filled week by a family of 'ridge runners', necessitating a secret midnight flight thereby avoiding one gaol term but he ends up in gaol on another charge where he experiences some of the darker sides of life. After his release from gaol he heads back to Washington where he breaks his leg and needs to be hospitalised. Intriguingly, he takes a side trip to Bermuda to convalesce. It's a fast paced comedy/thriller with action in Germany, Bermuda and several of the States of the USA. All of the characters are new to the reader although there are some echoes back to the first Jemmiss book.
