More DescriptionLife History: The Who I Am is the autobiography of author Doreen Parkies, who was brought up by her grandmother. Effective parenting skills can bring about a healthy nation if parents are responsible enough to make their children the first priority in their lives. Although society is mainly composed of working parents, child care is a joint responsibility. No child should be deprived of the opportunity of growing up under the care of two responsible parents, because child upbringing is a joint effort. Grandparents can willingly help when necessary, but it should not be their sole responsibility, as extended family roles are beneficial if utilised properly without any exploitation. The author writes: "I grew up in many locations and that was not my choice. Hence, when I first met and stayed with my mother, we were strangers. Inwardly, I used to compare her with my grandmother, and could see many loopholes and her mistakes, of which I said to myself I did not want to emulate her or even allow her to take care of my own children, because she was not like my grandmother. Thank God I was not brought up by her."
