I started writing poetry as a mental release. I have kept many emotions inside over the years. It is unhealthy, emotionally, to suppress feelings and thoughts. More DescriptionI started writing poetry as a mental release. I have kept many emotions inside over the years. It is unhealthy, emotionally, to suppress feelings and thoughts. Hence, I decided the best way to find peace and channel my energy is through writing, specifically poetry. I am a introvert. When I write poetry I truly pour my heart into my writing.I don't expect everyone to agree with my poetry. I am not writing to sway opinions on life issues. I am merely sharing my viewpoint on matters which affect society. In light of the Paula Deen scandal I felt compelled to voice my thoughts on the use of the N word, specifically among African Americans. As an African American woman I've never understood why African Americans continue to glorify and give life to the N word.My book includes a poem examining the dynamics of the N word usage. The media gives a pass to African Americans who use the derogatory term in movies and music and so forth. However, if a public figure who is non African American uses the N word the public figure is shunned. The double standard is not only astounding but impedes social progress.I don't think the N word can ever truly be glorified. I can't find one redeeming quality about the N word. When I think of the N word I am reminded of oppression, slavery and poverty. The continued use of the N word perpetuates racism and keeps African Americans stuck in a matrix of oppression. My poetry addresses current life issues such as abortion, love, motherhood, single parents, relationships, drugs and many relevant topics.
