Michigan Imprints, 1851-1876 represents the completion of Michigan's WPA Imprints Inventory.
The American Imprints Inventory was a project of the U.S. federal government's Works Progress Administration during the 1930s. Designed to inventory the nation's printed works from the colonial era forward, the project was shut down after the United States entered World War II in 1942. At that time, the Michigan portion of the Inventory had been published only up to the year 1850.
