More DescriptionCameroon is, like many contemporary African countries, the result of a contingency mapping that took place at the 1884 Berlin Conference following the implementation of the so-called "Hinterland" principle. It is well-known that the Mungo River, initially a mere geographical accident, later took on an emblematic and even an exemplary dimension in the construction of Cameroon, both as a country and a nation. As such, it became and has even often been seen by social forces on either side, either as an expressive metaphorical embodiment of a nation painstakingly trying to construct its road, or as a metaphor of anxiety, a widening gap between men and women who were, not long ago, itching to relive an ancient feeling.&&&&&Le Cameroun est, comme nombre de pays d'Afrique contemporaine, le fruit de la cartographie de la contingence dessin#65533;e #65533; la Conf#65533;rence de Berlin en 1884 par la loi dite de #65533; l'Hinterland #65533;. Prof. Pierre FandioUniversity of Buea
