As the expedition wound down something tragic happened, an attack by a band of Crow warriors on the expedition. A dying warrior told the Mountain Man that his family had been killed by the Bear Clan, the fierce and determined warriors of the southern Crow nation who had been trying to kill Jeremiah for almost two years.This event in the Western region of the Rockies sent the Mountain Man on a furious ride eastward toward where his enemies lived.
