More DescriptionThe good ship Maria Rickmers was one of the largest sailing ships built in the early 1890's. She was dubbed a 'monster' sailing ship. She disappeared on her maiden voyage. Various reports and sightings appeared in the newspapers, but nothing has ever been confirmed as to what happened to this enormous sailing ship. I thought I would collect these various sights and create a short story. The basis of this illustrated short story are actual reported events in 19th - 20th century newspapers about the sailing ship Maria Rickmers (1891-1892). Rather than telling this story in the third person I decided the story would be more fun narrated in the first person from the perspective of the ship's spirit (Maria Rickmers). In addition, I have Maria Rickmers retell her story not in plain English but using a 'bastardized' version of old sailor jargon to color her yarn. By bastardized I mean that she is using the meanings of nautical words in a fashion more suitable for the ship's perspective, but not necessarily a true interpretation of the words.
