Strangers sit next to my mother and tell her chapters worthy of books. One day, my mother and I ordered lunch at a restaurant. The restaurant was full, especially the tables for eating, so we shared a table with a woman. She began telling my mother stories about Calistoga, being born in Sonoma County, and the stranger went into how much Santa Rosa has changed since she was raised in Calistoga. The woman told my mother about her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. My mother and I went to a restaurant in Bennett Valley. The owners sat down at our table and began telling my mother stories about new developments in Santa Rosa, tales about changes in tourism, and the restaurant's success. Everybody tells my mother stories. I began to help her write her books. I began to interview her with a video camera and audio record her stories with a microphone the size of a thumb. Most of the stories are about Santa Rosa, California. Some cross over the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco.
