More DescriptionEnglish summary: German novels and travel literature written since 1989 feature numerous references to Russia and its inhabitants. This study brings the various forms of contemporary writing about Russia into closer focus. Within this context, a preoccupation with "the image of the foreign country" merely forms the basis for asking what literary texts specifically contribute to an overall discourse on Russia. For, as the author's main statement claims, literature does not simply convey images of what is foreign and different. Instead it is the constructed nature and functionality, the conditions, causes and mechanisms of a literary perception and construction of Russia which are repeatedly the subject of representation themselves. The meta constructive potential of literary texts is considerable. It can unfold implicitly or explicitly, in accordance with or in opposition to the possible intention of an author or a text. It is precisely this focus on different meta constructive textual methods that results in the insight that even the seemingly most narrow-minded codification of images of the self and others in literature is capable of, leading in the end to its very decomposition.
