In this seven story collection, my first, you will find some of what I feel is my best writing, including what I feel is the very best, "The Killing of Train-Man Brown."To me, writing is best when it flows out of you and won't stop until every last word desiring to be written, is written. That's what happened with "The Killing," and also with the second and third stories in the collection, "Send Me a Friend," and "Then Her Wig Fell Off."They came without effort - my only contribution...
More DescriptionIn this seven story collection, my first, you will find some of what I feel is my best writing, including what I feel is the very best, "The Killing of Train-Man Brown."To me, writing is best when it flows out of you and won't stop until every last word desiring to be written, is written. That's what happened with "The Killing," and also with the second and third stories in the collection, "Send Me a Friend," and "Then Her Wig Fell Off."They came without effort - my only contribution was to try write quickly, keeping up with the inner voice telling me what to write, until I knew the stories were "done."The fourth story, "Let The Dog Drive," is a very short one that a friend told me, and gave me permission to use. I love it because of the happy ending."As An Angel Might Sleep" is about one of the most beautiful moments I have had in my life, which unfortunately, did not last forever. "Young Turk," I'm afraid, also does not have a happy ending. I'm sorry. That's just life. If you cry, don't blame me. I cry too, everytime I read it.The collection ends with the title piece, "Slow Foreplay on a Fast Bus," a story that I had no idea would become so controversial. It wasn't meant to be. I also had no idea it would be the best selling story I have written, which it has become."Slow Foreplay on a Fast Bus," is just me being me: taking in all the strangeness that I see, and returning it to paper, for the world to read, if it wants to.And what I saw on that bus, were kids growing up very quickly. Also included is a "bonus" story, "Selma at 4 A.M." does not have a happy ending, but one that is always changing gradually, as we as a people continue to change. So there you have it. A collection of seven - plus one - of what I feel are some of the best of what I have written, out of over one hundred short stories, memoirs and articles.Hope you enjoy them! Will Bevis.
