More DescriptionStraight Up Writing is a comprehensive, structured, assessment-driven, differentiated writing program for middle and high school students. Straight Up Writing ensures student success and growth in writing by providing incremental, developmentally appropriate expectations that gradually increase over time. Straight Up Writing includes the following resources for students and teachers: target skill mini-lessons, including teacher tips and student displays; planning for writing; organization in writing; sentence structure; vocabulary; spelling (encoding); grammar and usa≥ mechanics; revision; editing; publishing; anchor writing plans for teacher sharing and student display; anchor texts for teacher sharing and student display; assessments for placement and progress monitoring; Proficiency Validation Plans (PVPs) for progress monitoring and reporting; and daily independent writing activities. This text is the teacher’s guide for instruction of students in the Straight Up Writing program. The program is divided into eleven (11) developmental stages for instruction. Each stage includes four instructional “products,” each of which includes resources for 45 days of instruction. This product, Response to Reading 3 is the fourth product in the seventh stage, Operational 1. In this product, students write multi-paragraph essays for the purpose of summarizing, comparing, and interpreting information gained from in-depth readings of text.
