Elizabeth Sargent was born Betty Bernardine Robinson on May 16, 1920. She studied theater at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University). Her first book, The African Boy, was written under the name E. N. Sargent and was published in 1963. Her other books included two collections for poetry entitled Love Poems of Elizabeth Sargent and The Magic Book of Love Exercises and the novel A Woman in Love. Her poems appeared in several magazines including The New Yorker and Cosmopolitan. She died on April 10, 2017 at the age of 96.
