This comprehensive workbook is packed with easy-to-implement strategies and ideas for aspiring or practicing paraeducators and is aligned with the National Paraprofessional Standards. It has been extensively field-tested with educators in both rural and urban settings throughout Connecticut as well as nationally. It gives the paraeducator tools and sample forms to have that "first" conversation with their teacher at the beginning of the year and helping to maintain communication. In addition to paraeducators, this workbook can be used as a tool for substitutes, tutors, instructional assistants, and new teachers as well. This workbook covers five basic areas: Roles and Responsibilities, Communication, Managing Behaviors, Ethics and Legal Issues, and Instructional Strategies. You'll discover a number of strategies for understanding your role, communication, managing and supporting behaviors, understanding the law and your ethical responsibility, setting the stage for instruction, instructional behaviors before and after a lesson, providing appropriate support in all content areas, and there is a handy "tool chart" at the end of each chapter where you jot down the strategies you learned in that chapter.
