More DescriptionThe Wonderlic Personnel Test is a well-established measure of intelligence, and it has been shown to predict performance in a variety of traditional jobs. Within the National Football League (NFL), it has been used to evaluate and select athletes in non-traditional, professional positions for over four decades. There is now considerable interest in assessing the validity of the Wonderlic in predicting NFL job performance. Thus, the purpose of this book is to (a) summarize the literature that investigates the relationship between the Wonderlic and NFL player performance, (b) evaluate, from a cognitive perspective, what is measured on the Wonderlic and determine why it fails to predict on-the-field performance, and (c) propose the use of alternative assessments linked to cognitive performance on the gridiron. The implications of these findings are discussed.
