More DescriptionThis piece "The Holy Spirit Comes" is a dramatic musical setting of the story of Pentecost, taken almost completely literally from Acts chapter 2.In composing this piece, I wanted to create a powerful musical experience for Pentecost Sunday, but write music that was really quite easy to learn quickly. The harmonies, voice leading, and part-writing are relatively simple and straightforward to learn and sing. This anthem, and most of my 2-part choral pieces, are written on 4 choral staves. I use a 4 staff arrangement (rather than 2) because sometimes the traditional 2-part arrangement is used, where sopranos and altos are in unison, and the tenors and basses are in unison (forming 2 parts); but at other times, the "high" parts sing together, and the "low" parts sing together-in other words, the sopranos and tenors sing in unison, while the altos and basses are in unison.I feel that this approach keeps challenges in learning the piece to a minimum, especially if a choir has few if any members of certain vocal parts (for instance, no tenors-a common challenge). This writing approach can also economize precious rehearsal time. It also gives some nice variety in the combinations of vocal sounds a congregation will hear coming from the choir. The piano writing in this piece is quite challenging. The fuller harmonic and florid writing of the piano part allows this work to feel especially expressive and full, even as the choral writing is mostly homophonic, easy to count, not large in vocal range, and relatively straightforward for a choir to aurally perceive musical entrances. To order additional hard copies of this anthem, please visit:https://www.createspace.com/4463980If you would like to inquire about other anthems, solos, cantatas, and other works I have written, or to commission a piece for a special occasion in the life of your church, please email me at firstcongomusic@gmail.com.Peace and Blessings,--Michael David Golzmane
