More DescriptionThe sun rises in the West, and sets in the East. The Old World is governed and divided by great nations and empires. The New World is somewhere far in the East, across an ocean. In Dallia, there is a tradition that all young men and woman of a certain age be sent on Il Pidogiarro, a year abroad in whatever foreign land they choose. When Vinescio dela Sura comes of age, he finds his choice vetoed by the request of a distant relation, who asks that, instead of being sent overseas to the distant and miraculous New World, Vinescio be sent Northward to work as a clerk for an Onark nobleman. As he travels, and in his time spent in the vast Onark Empire, Vinescio finds himself an accessory to the machinations of powers beyond his control. More importantly, his adventure tosses Vinescio into contact with a cast of myriad characters, all of whom are striving to survive and adapt as the world they live in changes radically. In this first part of a four-book series, Harrington begins his authorial quest to ask questions and discuss ideas. Drawing from a broad background in the humanities, Harrington has created rich a world populated by adaptations of cultures, histories, arts and peoples similar to the real world.
