Hanya Yanagihara is a novelist on Hawaiian ancestory. Her first novel, The People in the Trees, based on the real-life case of the virologist Daniel Carleton Gajdusek, was widely praised as one of the best novels of 2013. In 2015 her second novel, A Little Life, made the New Zealand Best Seller List. She is also a deputy editor at the New York Times Style Magazine.
