Dr. Mainzer has been as an educator for over 30 years. He has served as a classroom teacher, building and district level administrator, undergraduate and graduate professor, and school counselor in public and non-public schools in city and suburban districts, including K-12 and High School environments and general education and special needs settings, among them six years as counselor and intake coordinator in the public school within Bellevue Hospital Center run in collaboration with their Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He continues to serve as a full time school and college counselor in a public school in NYC. He is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.Dr. Mainzer holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in History from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Commonwealth Scholar), and New York University, respectively. He earned a Masters in School Counseling from Hunter College and a Doctorate in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. For many years a Board Member of the New York State School Counselor Association, he was elected to the Board of the American School Counselor Association effective 2013. He has presented at professional events through-out New York State and at conferences nationwide, including the National Association for College Admission Counseling and AVID. He also serves on the Ethics Committee of the National Career Development Association.
