More DescriptionWanderlust:This book of poems is derived from letters written by D.H. Lawrence and transformed into poems. The poems are "original" only in the restricted sense, as when a piece of music is transposed from one instrument to another and certain local changes are made to accommodate to the capabilities of the new instrument. Letters are not poems, but good letters can be transposed into viable poetry. In all cases the poems are derived from parts of letters found attractive for one reason or another. The vast bulk of the words are Lawrence's but Marsh has "played the changes" on his language to tighten and intensify his luminous, but often relaxed, epistolary prose into something that feels like a poem. Besides titles, he has added images where the poem wanted them-especially for closure. Throughout, he has striven to stay close to Lawrence's meaning and his feeling.
