Simultaneously, the role of process intensification in enhancing overall productivity is being increasingly recognised. This usually takes the form of reaction rate enhancement by extending known or emerging laboratory techniques to industrial scale production. Organic Synthesis Engineering describes the application of catalysis in its various forms in organic synthesis, and addresses both the chemical and engineering aspects of catalysts (particularly solid catalysts). It also outlines different techniques of reaction rate and/or selectivity enhancement - a feature not found in any existing books on reaction engineering.
