The author's adventurous spirit was evident early. It didn't occur to her that she couldn't do something just because she was a girl, and so she did. As a young adult she responded to messages she heard all about her, she married, grew a family and practiced "Holy Housewifery." Then the 1960s happened and drew the author outside her home to confront injustice in the world. She joined marches against war, racism and more, sometimes with her children in tow. At times she prayed with great joy. Many times she cried with desperation. For what? She struggled to find out. Over the years the author's study and work-life took her to Kenya, Tanzania, and Mexico, as well as states beyond Wisconsin. The people she met and worked with included those who called the streets their home and people who lived in homes surrounded by grand gardens and high fences. Many of these people connected with others generously. Some acted as though the others didn't exist, didn't even have the right to exist. This book is the author's story and sometimes those people's stories, set in the perspective of the history of the times.
