More DescriptionBarn Vet, The Story of a Minnesota Finn, is the autobiography of Dr. Aaron P. Antroinen, a veterinarian whose farm country practice on the Minnesota-South Dakota border led to a life of foreign service with the State Department. Born into a rural Finnish community in Minnesota in 1915, by age 7 Aaron's parents were dead, their six children ripped apart. Sent as an orphan to the State School for Dependent and Neglected Children in Owatonna, Minnesota, and then indentured as a farm hand, Aaron fought to get his schooling through the Depression, eventually earning his veterinary degree from Iowa State University. After World War II, Aaron's country practice as a barn vet would lead to foreign service with USAID, working as a livestock consultant to countries on every continent. This is his autobiography, as a legacy to his wife Gladys of over 71 years, and their many grandchildren.
