More DescriptionIn BURN THIS NOVEL! Michael Banks has had his coming-of-age epiphany. He is not a virgin, he's familiar with drugs and counter-culture, and he has no charming ignorance or innocent wonder of the great big world. Michael doesn't have all of the answers, but he can easily identify the wrong ones. BURN THIS NOVEL! is the chronicle of his year at a Pentecostal Christian College in Tennessee. Unfortunately, he has drifted away from traditional faith, owns an unfiltered mouth, and is more than just a little bit rebellious. Michael falls out of favor with most of his classmates, but finds a new set of friends in Chattanooga who are more entertaining and intriguing. Adventures to an abandoned caboose, Confederate graveyard, and a drug dealer's house in Chattanooga are juxtaposed with uncomfortable interactions with instructors and other students at college. Michael serves as an example of acceptance to his new friends while developing into a cautionary tale to his old ones.Though not religious and seldom serious, the story deals with religion, the meaning of life, teen angst, teen pregnancy, bigotry, homosexuality, controlled substances and their popularity with youth, musical elitism, and William Faulkner.
