More DescriptionPerhaps one of the best ways to describe this book is to let the book speak for itself. At the end of the room a door opened spilling bright illumination into the pitch-black room, impairing the Senator's vision. He flinched and strained his eyes to see shadowy figures emerging from the light and entering the room. They wordlessly circled Senator Kronys; only the sound of their feet shuffling against the floor made any sound worthy of notice. One of the Watchers shined a beam of light into his face with a flashlight. The door slammed closed and briefly echoed against the walls. The echo seemed to amuse the Senator and he began to laugh with an air of victory. Kronys spoke first-"Our Red Brother will receive them as one of his own and there is nothing you can do to impede their warm reception. All of that money, all of that time, spent on genetically engineering seeds that can survive the harshest environments; all of the resources from the Seed Project will be used in our favor, not the Alliance's." Kayne raised his hand in fury and struck the Senator on the cheek. "Shut up! Tell us the exact details of your plan and perhaps you will not die here in obscure darkness." The Senator laughed again. "Die!? I was dead the moment your fellow Watchers bound me to this chair." "Very well, Mr. Kronys, if that is your choice. The Chancellor gave me specific instructions not to torture you. Discovering the details of your plan was a mere convenience. We will discover them soon enough. Oh, and you should know that we will eventually follow them to Mars and eradicate them." Kayne circled around to the back of Kronys' chair, leaned down and talked directly into his ear. "The problem with people like you is that you are naïve enough to think that your choices can change the world. You simply don't have the power to change things."Commander Kayne pulled the string on a dusty old light bulb suspended on a wire above the Senator's head; it swayed back and forth sending a pendulum of shadows swinging about the room. He drew his pistol and positioned the barrel behind his head. The good Senator inhaled, filling his lungs with millions of molecules of timeless air-it was his last breath. He never heard the killing shot.Choices were made. The world had changed.
