The book begins as her poetry journal, but quickly takes a dark turn when she awakens one night on a path of black leaves, and she is not alone. Thus, a deadly game begins. Slender Man is a creature made real by people's thoughts, and his essence is preserved in pictures and notes scattered around the forest. She must find those pages and destroy them in the world's most deadly scavenger hunt.
