More DescriptionKierkegaard was one of the deepest and most complex religious thinkers of the 19th century. His words still have the power to influence and change a reader, because they give a startling and compelling account of the Christian self and how to live according to Christ's teaching. The present book takes a scholarly approach to trying to understand and explain Kierkegaard's works, but it is not aimed only at academics. Kierkegaard's insights into faith are far too important to be a matter only for scholarship. It is my hope therefore that what I have written may be of help to anyone who wants to understand Kierkegaard better. Scholarship and study are, of course, necessary tools in explaining such a profound thinker, but in writing I try never to forget that Kierkegaard's purpose was to influence people not so much in terms of their intellects, but in terms of their personal and spiritual lives. In the end, his greatest contribution to the theology of the self is his idea that finally we must cease to interpret and start living in the way that Christ lived. If this book helps, even a little, to explain this, it will have more than served its purpose.
