Marriage: the Ferocious Animal and Thorny Bushes along the Journey 1Walking on the Raging Waters with Christ in the Vessel:Will Your Anchor Hold in the Storms of Life?I will start this short essay by quoting Psalm 23 in its entirety. It is a very powerful Psalm, because it gives reassurance of the presence of the Good Shepherd on our side when facing adversities in life: Psalm 23A Psalm of David.1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever. This Psalm is very short and simple, yet very powerful, and demonstrates the protective power of the living God we serve. Reiterating the same principle is the traditional Methodist hymn "Be gone unbelief". The first stanza begins:"Be gone unbelief, my savior is near, and for my relief will surely appear ..." and later continues: "With Christ in the vessel, I smile at the storm ...."Brothers and sisters, you can only smile at the storms of life if you have Christ in your vessel. No man can save you, except he whom God has chosen and empowered to do so. The thrust of this short piece is that if you keep a narrow focus on Christ on the cross and trust and obey him, he will see you through all the changes of life, in trouble and in joy. Man will always betray and disappoint you, but God never fails. The storm may roll beside you and you shall not be dismayed if you have Christ in the vessel. Simply trust and obey, for there is no other way.
