The second in a series of literary fiction involving an alter ego Owen Mohr, a college professor with a troubled psyche, Mohr Oncemore continues on from the earlier book, Mohr Nevermore, with young Owen off to Europe for his first real taste of personal freedom but very unsure of his ability to cope with the larger world despite the support of Muff, his French girlfriend, and the encouragement of his correspondent companion, the psychologist colleague, Luther.Through the years that follow, one is taken along on the ongoing voyage that is Mohr's coming to grips with the layers of his existence all the while dealing with an anxiety that diminishes with time but never completely goes away. Close relatives and friends , including the much-loved Muff and Luther himself, die their places taken by a strengthening sense of self and the development of a new, more traditional relationship with Mary Jo met in the later years of his professional life. One is left at the end of Mohr Oncemore with Mohr starting retirement and the final phase of a better understood, but still basically unresolved, sense of life and its many complex aspects. The story continues to be a must read for anyone interested in the circumstances going to make up a modern man however flawed he might be.
