More DescriptionReflections (Illusions, Impressions & Abstractions) is a retrospective of Tom Wyatt's art reflection photography. The 50 page monograph contains a total of 78 photographs captured by Wyatt since 1997. Reflections, be they on water, glass, metal or wet surfaces, are a predominant theme throughout the artist's body of work. This compilation shows the development of Tom Wyatt's motif, beginning with impressionistic water reflections. Gradually he turned his camera's viewfinder towards to other surfaces that provided optical mirroring. In so doing, Tom began letting go of representational anchors and opened his eyes and mind to abstraction. There are different moods, elements and topics that ripple & swirl their way through the artist's photographs. These include: * whimsical & imaginary creatures; * sunrise reflections (from mellow to thunderous)* odd & puzzling visions * dramatic nighttime illumination (especially neon)* surrealistic distortions & hallucinations* urban street scenes - usually seen through auto glass or metal* serene impressions in water and glass The fact that hues get intensified when light bounces and can make Tom Wyatt's images seem "unbelievable". Some people assume are they computer-generated or significantly altered. They are not. As photographers have always done, he edits his images to retouch, crop/rotate and make tonal/color corrections. Tom's objective in editing is to show what he saw. The book is designed to be both an introduction and overview to Tom Wyatt's reflection photography. 77 of the photographs are shown in full color, one is presented in black & white. Contained in its pages are: an artist statement, biography and complete list of the photographs. This list includes the shooting location as well as brief descriptions; this information is provided to aid viewers wanting more reference with abstract imagery. Reflections can stimulate impressions for our minds, encouraging us to take a break from the busy world we live in with a visual vacation. Illusionary & abstract images encourage our minds stay open, especially to what is fanciful and unknown. Whimsy helps us to not only chuckle, but also, to think freely. Through this work, it is the artist's hope to increase awareness of the many imaginative invitations that exist around us all the time.
