More DescriptionThere is in circulation a golden book, The Way of Divine Love, or Heart Message of the Heart of Jesus to the World," edited by Berruti, Editor of the Italian Catholic Library, Turin. Not all priests are acquainted with this important treatise. The volume contains a letter signed by Cardinal Pacelli, the later Pope Pius XII. In part it reads: "These pages can contribute efficaciously to arousing in many souls an even fuller and more loving confidence in the infinite mercy of the Heart of Jesus."The book is rich in teachings for every category of persons but especially for priests. On page 380 of the Italian edition (cf. p. 278 of the English edition-Newman Press, 1951), we read: On Nlarch 7, 1923, Jesus appearing to Sister Josefa Menendez, said: "Kiss the ground in all humility. Now write for souls: Who can express all I expect from My priests? They are invested with my own power, that they may forgive sin-I myself am obedient to their word when they summon Me from heaven to earth-I am totally surrendered into their hands; they may confine Me to the Tabernacle or give Me to the faithful in Holy Communion-They are, so to say, My almoncrs. To each I have entrusted souls that by their preaching, their dircction and above all by their example, they may guide them in the path of virtue. What rcsponse do they make?Do they all fulfil Love's missions?-Oh what cruel sorrow for My Heart when I am forced to say: The world wounds Me in My hands and in My feet and it sullies My countenance-My chosen souls and My consecrated religious, My priests, they rend and break My Heart.-How many priests after giving back grace to many souls are themselves in a state of sin! How many say Mass thus-receive Me thus-live and die thus!' "These tracts from the Way of Divine Love suggested to me to compose a course of meditations, under the title "Sitio." The salient passages of my writing are taken almost entirely, not only from the above named Italian edition of the way of Divine Love," but also from the book: Cum Clamore Valido or the 'Appeal of the Redeemer to Consecrated Persons', edited by the Marietti Library. There are 33 French editions of the latter.
