Thomas Myles Steinbeck was born in Manhattan, New York on August 2, 1944 to novelist John Steinbeck and his second wife Gwyndolyn Conger. He studied film at the University of California, Los Angeles. He served during the Vietnam War as a helicopter gunman and then as a producer with the American Forces Vietnam Network. After the war, he worked in film and television and wrote screenplays.
He published a collection of stories, Down to a Soundless Sea, in 2002. He later published two novels entitled The Silver Lotus and In the Shadow of the Cypress. He died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on August 11, 2016 at the age of 72.
