The intent of the comprehensive written examination is to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the learner's knowledge in the field of Educational research. The comprehensive written examination is taken at the completion of the learner's course work, which qualifies the learner to be eligible to take the examination. Application and clearance for the comprehensive written examination occurs through a mentor (advisor) and the Graduate program service depending on the Institution. Usually, when the Comprehensive Examination is completed, it is submitted to the mentor or Graduate program Services Office in order to initiate the process of evaluation and approval. In some Institutions the learners forms the committee and in other institutions select a mentor and forms the comprehensive examination committee. Upon successful completion of the "written section" and "oral section" of the comprehensive examination, the learner will be allowed to start his/her Dissertation. In school of education's comprehensive examination, learners are asked to write on three questions in the context of the following three sections (i.e., one question per section): 1) Research Methodology, 2) Integration and Synthesis of Relevant Theory and Research, 3) Application of Relevant Theory and Research. Learners will have certain amount of time to complete each section of the examination according to the Institution schedule. The Written Comprehensive Examination is intended to assess knowledge and conceptual ability in a wide range of areas in educational research.
