More DescriptionThe Cudgel is a novella about the experience of a working man in the economic downturn of the late aughts. The Cudgel itself serves as metaphor for the multitudinous assaults that attack the average person during such crises. Beaten repeatedly, sometimes subtly, sometimes with much force. This novella not deal with the violent coercion of economic apparatus against flesh , but only the soft side of the Cudgel. If these should fail to crush the man, the machine resorts to more belligerent means. At the beginning of the extended economic upset, such deflected actions are usually enough because people still have hope in their hearts and remember what things were like before the crash. As the Cudgel continues to crush them, however, they lose hope and begin to look for better solutions to their problems.
