Companion novel to the series The Strongs of Summerleas Farm
Devon, England, 1815.
When fifteen year-old Annie Drewe is orphaned by the death of her father, her Uncle finds her employment on a small dairy-farm but despite priding herself with knowing 'what's what', she fails to appreciate how her dramatic looks and flirtatious nature are a dangerous combination - especially where other women's husbands are concerned - and caught off-guard one day by her employer's unsolicited advances, she is promptly dismissed.
Clinging to her dream of finding a suitable man with whom to raise a family, Annie develops a knack for charming her way in and out of drudgery until eventually, she falls for the one man who seems impervious to her wiles and who will lead her to taking her most reckless gamble yet.

Will I like it?
When I tell people that I have written another novel, invariably, their first question is 'Will I like it?' and of course that's really difficult to answer. I ask whether they have read The Worst of Lies or An Unorthodox Arrangement but if they haven't, then my response is to ask them what sort of books and characters they like to read about. And then, if in particular they mention the nineteenth-century, family sagas, romance, emotional conflict, tangled relationships and earthy, rural settings, then I tell them that they might. But if, more than that, they tell me that they want to be drawn in by flawed characters and broken relationships; that they want to immerse themselves in a book to be savoured slowly and that will linger with them once finished; that they aren't squeamish about sex and adultery and prefer grit and betrayal over fairy-tales, then I tell them that they're probably in for a treat.
And if they're still undecided, then I tell them to go to Amazon's 'Look Inside' feature and start reading. After all, if they reach the end of the preview and want to know more, then surely that's a more powerful indication that they will enjoy my writing than anything I can tell them about it!
