Mitigating pain may take many forms, one of which includes using a rebound relationship as a distraction, or substitute. Distractions for the rebounder are defined as examples such as moping, obsessing, and/or stalking (by the rebounder). Rebounders use these distractions as a method for coping, but not as a way of addressing the problem. Most people come to realize that they are in a rebound relationship and seek to terminate it. The negative side to a rebound relationship is when the rebounder recognizes the benefits he or she can obtain and continue to receive as a result of sustaining and maintaining the connection with the rebound. It is at this point where the rebounder uses the rebound for personal gain, which may involve receiving constant sex, money, emotional support, and energy. Rebound relationships are a positive distraction for the rebounder, but they are a negative distraction for the rebound. The rebounder sets the tone and the pace of the rebound relationship, gaining the benefit of much needed time to pursue reconciliation with the ex of the previous relationship. The rebounder achieves the balance he or she needs. However, a rebound relationship for the rebound creates imbalance; it is a time-killer.With all of these ideas in mind, Bait, Hook & Switch: Confessions of a Rebound Girl, Part I is a book about my personal struggles with rebound relationships, particularly how I failed to recognize when I was in one and how I perpetuated the problem and the cycle throughout my early twenties to my late thirties and to my transition to forty years old. In writing this book, after my last rebound relationship, I realized that I had never addressed the pain, hurt, and causes of why I entered, unknowingly at the time, rebound relationships and why I was always susceptible to using these types of short-term mating strategies. I realized that I did not take the time to know the person I wanted to be in relationship with; if I had then I would have been able to heed warning bells and make better decisions. Therefore, Bait, Hook & Switch: Confessions of a Rebound Girl is largely about having the zeal to enter a romantic relationship but lacking the knowledge to understand one. This book is organized into five parts which house major chapters on the topic. The book is largely instructive and encouraging with minor areas that are practical. It offers a pseudo-academic tone and style to promote self-education of the topic. This book is part of a three-part series.
