Michael J. Berland was born April 6, 1968. His alma mater is the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is CEO of Edelman Berland, the global intelligence, research, and analytics division of Edelman. Prior to that he was President of Penn, Schoen & Berland, a market research and polling firm.

Mike is an accomplished author. He is the co-author, along with Doug Schoen, of What Makes You Tick?: How Successful People Do It-And What You Can Learn from Them (2009). His current book, written with Gale Bernhardt, is Fat-Burning Machine: The 12-Week Plan (2015).

Berlan is a strategic advisor and communications consultant and an expert in how people think and behave as consumers, voters and decision-makers. He has worked with political candidates in the U.S. and abroad. His clients have included New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in his 2001 and 2005 mayoral campaigns. During Hillary Clinton's 2006 Senate and 2008 Presidential primary campaigns, he led her targeting and direct mail.

Mike regularly appears on Fox Business Network's Mornings with Maria to discuss political strategy.

He was awarded The David Ogilvy Research Award in 2002 by the Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) for his global targeting and communications research. Mike is a former chair of the Gotham chapter of the New York City Young Presidents' Organization (YPO).

He is a New York City Marathon finisher and successfully completed the 2015 Ironman World Championships in Kona, HI.
