More DescriptionCaptain Thomas Hunt Morgan, a Deputy Sheriff of Logan County in Eastern Kentucky, made his appearance in the book Murder onThornton Mountain. He is descended from a long line of mountain men who have picked up a rifle to defend their country. This is the story of his grandfather, Major John Hunt Morgan, who fought in WW2. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor Morgan knew he would have to leave his family to become an Infantryman just as his father had done during WW1. But he possessed the language and fighting skills the Army needed. The skills to parachute into occupied France and organize French resistance in preparation for the Normandy invasion. The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) needed such men and recruited him for behind the line operations. He reports to the Q building in DC where he is assigned to Area F for his initial training, then to Area B for more advanced training. It is at Area B where he first makes the acquaintance of Maj W.E Fairborn a British Special Operations Executive (SOE) Officer responsible for turning the OSS agents into lethal killing machines. When shipped to England to complete his training he is selected for the Jedburghs who will be organized into three man teams to be dropped into France to organize the French Maquis to stop the Nazi from sending reinforcements to repel the invasion of Normandy. When his three man team, Team Abigail, is dropped by parachute into occupied France he knows it is time to kill or be killed.
