More DescriptionSondra Tyler uses the pseudonym Sont because she says that women's names change, and she wants to be known by a writing persona that doesn't change. âI've been married and unmarried and remarried and who knows what next, but I am always the writer Sont.â Born in 1950 in Dallas, Texas, the author's years were salt-and-peppered with an array of social revolutions that are reflected in her work. Though she was born in the city, she loves the country. She now lives in semi-retirement, enjoying life on land called Freedom in East Texas, and teaching occasional reading and composition classes at Navarro College in Corsicana. Some characterize the poet's work as metaphysical because they say that she takes the mundane and plays with it in her work in stark ways. Surely evidenced in her work are the influences of e. e. cummings, Whitman, Frost, Stevens, Rice and Plath, yet the author likes to incorporate a modern flair. Though an avid reader and lover of the classics, she loves to experiment with her own modern poetic voice. Sont's first book of poetry, Thunder Road, won Writer's Digest book of the year for poetry in 1994. Her second book, Bluebonnet, Rose and Kate, is a novel. She has completed another volume of poetry, Tender Nickels, and continues to compile her works. âI don't like pictures of myself on a book,â she says. âI want to be remembered by my words: I want to be a ghost that haunts library shelves.â
