Influence behind the Gospel: is it to set captives free, or to capture, abuse and manipulate them? 8. Jumping into your role in life 1The Road to Calvary: not a walk in the parkChrist's death on the cross was revealed to the world in many ways in the Bible. Prophets like Elijah described his death as well as his birth in very vivid and graphic ways, years before he was born. Many signs were given before the miracle of his virgin birth. Christ told his disciples about his death and resurrection in many parables. Unfortunately, the disciples grasped the revelation of these parables only after his death. The night before he actually traveled on the road to Calvary, he saw the picture very clearly, and felt the pain even before it happened. In fact he was so grieved that he even asked if God could let it pass him. In spite of sweating even blood by the thought of it, he still yielded to the will of God. Folks, no matter what the road may seem like, with the pain and agony, loneliness and rejection, the will of God for our lives is the only destination that will win us real victory. It is the best destination we could ever imagine, however we often have to bear our cross, and wear our crown of thorns to get there. The poet Pablo Neruda puts it this way: "......All paths lead to the same goal: to convey to others what we are. And we must pass through solitude and difficulty, isolation and silence in order to reach forth to the enchanted place, where we can dance our clumsy dance, and sing our sorrowful song...but in this dance, or in this song, there are fulfilled the most ancient rites of our conscience, in the awareness of being human and of believing in a common destiny..." Indeed, Christ walked through solitude, difficulty, and silence on the road to Calvary until his death................................................................Oprah Winfrey states, "It wasn't until I was demoted as an on-air anchor woman, and thrown into the talk show arena to get rid of me, that I allowed my own truth to come through. The first day I was on the air doing my first talk show back in 1978, it felt like breathing, which is what your true passion should feel like. It should be so natural to you. And so, I took what had been a mistake, what had been perceived as a failure with my career as an anchor woman in the news business and turned it into a talk show career that's done OK for me"
