Author Biography
Schreiber, Le Anne (Author)
Le Anne Schreiber was born in Evanston, Illinois on August 4, 1945. She received a bachelor's degree from Rice University and a master's degree in English from Stanford University. While doing postgraduate work at Harvard University, where she was planning for a career teaching English literature, she decided to pursue journalism.

In 1974, she wrote a letter to the managing editor of Time Magazine suggesting article ideas and was hired. She originally covered international politics, but she was sent to cover the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. She was hired by womenSports two months after the Olympics and joined The New York Times a year and a half later. She became the sports editor of The Times in 1978 and held that position for two years. Afterward, she spent nearly four years as deputy editor of The Times Book Review. She left The Times in 1984.

She wrote two books entitled Midstream and Light Years. She wrote freelance articles including two for Glamour magazine about abortion that won a National Magazine Award in 1992. In recent years, she taught English at the New York State Writers Institute at the University at Albany. In 2007, she returned to sports for two years as ESPN's ombudswoman. She died of lung cancer on May 31, 2019 at the age of 73.
